ABOUT DR.DASILVA

We are very pleased to introduce Dr. Michael daSilva. Dr. daSilva will be joining the Eye Institute in August of 2021. He hopes to continue in our tradition of providing the latest advancements in his field and his practice with a focus on cataract and refractive surgery.

Dr. daSilva is a comprehensive ophthalmologist with a focus on cataract and refractive surgery.  He specializes in advanced cataract surgery, using technologies such as Femtosecond Laser-Assisted Cataract Surgery (FLACS) and intraoperative biometry to deliver precise outcomes. He performs refractive procedures such as LASIK, PRK, and refractive lens exchange. His experience in different intraocular lenses and surgical techniques helps patients reduce their dependence on corrective lenses by treating presbyopia and reducing astigmatism at the time of cataract surgery. His training in Microinvasive Glaucoma Surgery (MIGS) provides options for glaucoma patients to reduce their dependence on pressure-lowering eye drops. In addition to other eye conditions, Dr. daSilva also provides general ophthalmology eye care for the management of diabetic eye disease, glaucoma, and trauma.

Dr. daSilva received a Bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry from the University of Nebraska.  He earned his Medical Doctorate with distinction from the University of Nebraska Medical Center, garnering both the competitive Regents Scholarship and admittance to the Alpha Omega Alpha honors society. He completed his internship in general medicine at the University of South Dakota Sanford School of Medicine in Sioux Falls.  He completed an ophthalmology residency at the prestigious Stein Eye Institute (UCLA) in Los Angeles, California, one of the highest-ranked programs in the nation.  He has authored several peer-reviewed journal articles and book chapters, notably in the area of challenging cataract surgery.

Dr. daSilva cares deeply about patient communication, believing that it is the foundation of effective doctor-patient relationships. He is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons, and the Refractive Surgery Alliance.
